In 2008 I left corporate life to pursue “something else”. I have always been health conscious and after a little soul searching I retrained to become a Pilates Instructor and founded my first business, Shropshire Pilates.

The worldwide events of 2020 led me to accelerate and build an On Demand and Online Classes business too and to open a lovely studio from where I work. My ambition is to promote and teach the methods of Pilates and Hypopressives Exercises alongside the benefits of other well-being pillars and for people to access movement classes in a way that suits their lifestyle - in person, online, 1-1 or small groups. Online classes are the perfect way to keep up with your practice when you are on the move.

As a Pilates and Hypopressives Instructor there is always something new to learn about the body, and I love the challenge of developing my knowledge and bringing about new concepts and methods to clients. The feedback that instructing offers is incredibly satisfying; people’s body’s and lives change as a result of regular Pilates and Hypopressives practice.

More Information
My personal favourites for taking care of my own physical and mental health, are, of course, Pilates in all its forms, running, walking/hiking, cardio work and yin yoga. I have skied and climbed for some time, but its time to learn something new! Its important to add variety and challenge for me, so my next challenge is golf! I also recognise the deeply restorative effects of a good nights sleep, good nutrition, a good movie or book and just hanging out with great friends. These are things that I prioritise.

My Pilates journey started when I sustained a back injury from dance at the age of 14 and since then, Pilates has played a big part in my overall health and fitness as well as putting me back on the right track after my injury.

After 2 years of attending regular Pilates classes (run by Wendy), I decided that I wanted to understand more about the technique so I started my Pilates Intensive 6 month teacher training course in 2016.

My training took place in Buckinghamshire at Pilates Point with Michael King Pilates. Michael King himself has a strong links to dance and so for me this was an obvious choice. I completed my Mat work qualification in July 2016 and have since been working with Wendy Joelson initially through the Shropshire Pilates brand.

My training
I have taken my training further since then: Barre Pilates, again with Michael King, EquiPilates with Lindsay Wilcox Read (including working with clients on and off horse, intrinsic biomechanics, and facial/muscle release work), Yin Yoga at White Space yoga studio and ongoing CPD’s including facial release using the prickle ball with Trigger Point Pilates.

Part of my EquiPilates training is the use of intrinsic biomechanics. It’s a wonderful tool to delve a little deeper into our body’s function and ‘why’ we move or struggle to move in the ways that we do. Intrinsic biomechanics is helpful for everyone and I’ve found that using it, along with Pilates, Yin and facial release, works beautifully to help people active their physical and/or performance goals.

More Information
I have found Pilates and Yin yoga to be such a fantastic way to both strengthen and stretch my own body and feel it has bettered my personal performance in the sport and activities I enjoy, helped protect from and prevent injury and massively increased my awareness of posture and bad habits.

I think simply moving and bringing awareness to our bodies can be so beneficial to our overall health, wellbeing and performance (whether that be a high level of sport or simply tying your shoe laces), this is why I love teaching, helping people make the changes they want to see.

. . . . . . . . .
I have always had a great love for health and wellbeing. Growing up in a very active environment, with a family that encouraged sport and exercise guided my direction in life; I quickly became motivated to see others progress and achieve their physical and life goals.

More Information
I followed my passion by studying the principles, theories and methods of coaching in higher education. Alongside countless hours of first hand experience and graduating university I launched my personal coaching company 'LGCoaching', but as my passions progressed I knew I wanted to do more. I work across the spectrum offering coaching for busy corporate professionals to vulnerable young people and helping them all to achieve their fitness and lifestyle goals.

Going forwards
During the 2020/21 pandemic I was forced to rethink my business. As a consequence I have moved many of my services online, much like the amazing Wendy. We have been collaborating now since the summer of 2020. Our aim is to deliver, via Live and Online classes, a unique blend of Fitness and Pilates to those who may not experience it otherwise!

What is Pilates?
. . . . . . . . .

Pilates is a form of exercise that was first created by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. A full-body programme that emphasises the mind-body connection, focus is placed on controlled movements that are fluid and balanced. Many people start doing Pilates to build their core strength, but it will actually help develop your overall strength as well. By practising Pilates regularly, you will start to see better mobility, flexibility, agility and improved coordination, as well as allowing the mind some time to switch off. Pilates is an effective exercise program for people of all ages, body types, and fitness levels.

What is Hypopressives?
. . . . . . . . .

Hypopressives Exercises are the missing link in taking care of our bodies.

It is a whole body technique with special focus on the system that includes the diaphragm, the deep abdominals and the pelvic floor. For just 10 minutes a day, you will begin to transform your body.

What our clients are saying

I am finding the combination of classes and the frequency is having an enormous effect, physically and mentally, so a really big thank you for enabling that.
The opportunity to do frequent Online Pilates classes has been life changing. Previously, I had practiced Pilates twice a week. I had frequent neck discomfort and monthly visits to a chiropractor for neck manipulation. I was always cautious about any exercises involving lifting the head. Since being able to do daily Online classes, I have not needed any neck treatment for six months, have been pain free and am confident doing head lifting exercises. Wendy’s clear instructions and the flexibility of the on line classes offered is fantastic and I would strongly recommend to all.
Just wanted to let you know that the Yin session was amazing. Even more relaxing than usual. Who would have thought that was possible!
As seems to happen so often these days, a busy day ahead, its wonderful being able to choose when to do the class. Many thanks.
Just felt I had to say how much I have enjoyed the Online Live classes this week and how impressive your skills are. You are challenging us all the time and your precision regarding explanations re technique is superb, not to mention the variety you introduce and the lovely atmosphere you always create. I have said it before but I must repeat - you are a lifesaver!
